Welcome Back, Parents and Guardians!

We are thrilled to announce that we have successfully completed our first full week of the school year at Hayward High School! As we embark on this journey together, we want to extend our warmest greetings and express our commitment to making this year a successful and enriching experience for all. Here are a few important things to know as we continue into the school year:

Student Schedules:
As we work diligently to balance classes, student schedules are still being finalized. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this process. Please know that our top priority is ensuring that every student is placed in the best possible learning environment. However, please be aware that classes may change during this process.

Health and Safety Measures:
The health and safety of our students and staff remain a top priority. To ensure the highest level of protection for everyone on campus, only N95 masks will be permitted. If your child needs a mask, they can visit the main office or the CSO’s desk at the front of the school to receive one. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe school environment.

Dress Code Reminder:
We want to remind parents and students of the importance of adhering to our dress code. The California Administrative Code, Title 5, Section 302, states:

“A pupil who goes to school without proper attention having been given to personal cleanliness or neatness of dress may be sent home to be properly prepared for school, or shall be required to prepare him/herself for the school room before entering.”

Students who are inappropriately dressed will be referred to the office. Parents or guardians will be contacted to bring a change of clothes. Refusal to comply with administration or repeated offenses will result in the student being sent home suspended.

The following clothing is not appropriate for school or school-sponsored activities and should not be worn:

  • Flip flops, slippers, and bare feet. Shoes must be worn at all times for safety reasons.

  • Head coverings such as hairnets, wave rags/caps, and similar grooming headwear are not allowed. Exceptions will be made for students whose religious practices require head covering. Sunglasses may be worn to P.E. only with a doctor’s note.

  • ALL bandanas of any color are prohibited.

  • Sagging pants are not allowed, and underwear may not be visible.

  • Clothes must be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times. See-through or fishnet fabrics, halter tops, off-the-shoulder or low-cut tops, bare midriffs, strapless shirts and dresses, and skirts or shorts shorter than mid-thigh are prohibited. Ripped jeans showing an inappropriate amount of bare skin are also prohibited.

  • Pajamas and house slippers are not acceptable school attire (except during Spirit Week!).

  • Shoulder straps must be at least 1 ½ inches in width (4 cm).

  • Clothing and backpacks that display or imply weapons, gambling, gang, drug/alcohol/tobacco use, criminal activity, profane or obscene words and phrases, or sexually explicit comments or symbols are not allowed. This includes brands such as Backwoods and Cookies.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Protocol:
To ensure the safety of all students, we ask that parents and guardians exercise courtesy and caution during drop-off and pick-up times. Please be aware that the Hayward Police Department (HPD) will be actively monitoring traffic, and tickets will be issued for violations. Your careful attention in the parking areas is greatly appreciated.

"Down on the Farm with the Principal":
We are excited to announce our upcoming event, "Down on the Farm with the Principal." This will be a fantastic opportunity for parents to provide input, ask questions, and engage in meaningful conversations with the school administration. We encourage you to attend and share your thoughts as we work together to make this school year the best it can be. We will be starting this on September 19th, so please look out for more information to come.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to a fantastic school year ahead and to working closely with you to ensure your child's success.

Sincerely,
Waylon Miller
